Why Thermal?
Both the RuggedJet and PocketJet Brother printer series are thermal type printers. Utilizing a special thermal paper (Brother Mobile has a wide variety of thermal paper options including fanfold, roll, or sheet paper) the printers burn the image directly to the paper or label. With toner or ink based printing, printers are highly susceptible to any sort of thermal fluctuations both extreme heat as well as cold. With high temperatures, toner or ink cartridges can burst or explode while cold temps precipitate clotting and jamming. By eliminating ink or toner, the Brother thermal printers are well aligned for resisting temp fluctuations (most notably while installed in a vehicle or non-climate controlled warehouse.)

While a mobile thermal printer is a useful item in a workstation, Brother and other manufacturers create a wide assortment of accessories to further optimize the printer for each user's needs.
